Creating a website can be very confusing. If you are not a website designer then the language and terminology is confusing. I try and make it as simple as possible the people to understand.
I have been designing websites for Irish and Cork businesses for a number of years and have developed a wide range of materials to try and help people to get an affordable business website on the Internet. Websie design is what I do every day. But for those of you who are not familiar with here are some basic terms that will help you to at least understand the main components of a site.
1.CONTENT
Content is the pages, images, logos and graphics that you see on a page. Usually this is created by the web designer with your input. He writes the text, perhaps creates or purchases the graphics and puts it all together in a pleasing design.
2. DOMAIN NAME
You need a domain name to like http://www.example.com. The website designer can register this for you. In Ireland for a .ie domain we go through the hosting company who then submit your request to the IEDR (Irish Domain Registration cvompany).
3. HOSTING
Your content needs to be hosted. There are hundreds of hosting companys out there. They ensure that the content created is stored on a safe system that users can access from the internet.
There is much more to the site set-up than this but this is some of the basic terminology that can help you understand the basics of a site.
