Why a Blog is a No Brainer

Jun 29, 2010   //   by Kieran   //   SEO  //  No Comments

As I have mentioned in the past a website is basically useless if it cant be found.  For competitive keywords a good SEO can help you with this strategy.  But having a blog on your site can make a huge difference to your overall  keyword density on a site.

WordPress for instance is so easy to install that there is no real reason why you should not have a blog on your site.  The new release WP 3.0 is the easiest yet to configure and allows you to set header images and background colours with a the click of a mouse.

Now I am not advocating blasting on and on about certain keywords on your blog.  I would advise speaking in simple human terms about you, your business, your niche or whatever your site is about in normal authentic language on a regular basis.

Every week I get this call.  Same call different person. Here is the basic transcript below.  The type of site is of course fictional but this is very very close to the type of conversation that I have with people.  I actually spend a lot longer in most cases explaining very slowly and simply how this type of site works but there is still a strong belief out there that if you build it they will come

Brrrrrrrnnnnng (Editors note – my phone does not ring like this but it sets the scene)

Caller:  I was thinking of getting a website.

Search Enigne Optimisation Cork

Nov 24, 2009   //   by Kieran   //   SEO, Website Design  //  No Comments

Yes the title is misspelled but having read a blog post by PrimaryPosition about the whole topic I decided to try and rank for a misspelled term referring to SEO in this case Search Enigne Optimisation Cork.  By typing the word “Engine” as “Enigne” it is interesting to see in the Irish or Cork market if I can get any position ranking.

Now I as I repeatedly state I am quite happy to explain how to do SEO for your on-site but when it comes to ranking on an enigne (oops there I go again) for a competitive keyword then go to the experts.

How do I try to do it for this post.  Here is simply what I did.

  • Put the title in the post that I want to be found for.
  • Have it in the post – not too often but at least mention it.
  • Use the All In One SEO

SEO stands search engine optimisation.  More and more businesses are now becoming acutely aware of the fact that just having a site is not enough for them to be found by search engines.  As a result like BER inspectors we are now falling over SEO experts and people claiming to be able to advise you on getting better ranking.

Like most people in my business I look at the the competition and it never ceases to amaze me that most web design companies claim to also deliver SEO services.  This is often not the case.  Is possible to write well structured content that will deliver results on Search Engine Ranking Pages (SERPS) but if your keywords is a highly competitive it is impossible to do this solely with on page content.

SEO Costs Money

SEO will cost you money because results cannot be delivered with just the

Sep 7, 2009   //   by Kieran   //   SEO, Website Design  //  No Comments

If at this stage in 2009 you have a business and do not have a business website then you are way behind the pack.  Having a website is an essential part of your marketing portfolio these days.  People Google businesses now before they check the phone book! If you do not have a business website then you had better get going on getting one organised today as believe me your competitors have one and are getting customers that you should have.

Why do you not have a website?  Here are some of the common reasons and my answers to them.

I do not need a website my business is mostly by word of mouth.

So you don’t want to have more customers? This is patently rubbish.  The money you put into a website will have a payback.  People spend fortunes on leaflets and radio ads.  A website lasts forever and if you

Many people have a website and go to Google a specific term related to their site and area of expertise and are often delighted when they see they are on the first page of Google.

In many, many cases the only reason they are on the front page is because this search term is not being searched for.  A good SEO company or Internet marketing firm should be able to work with you to at least ensure that you are following the right strategy for your site both for on page text and for off page SEO and Internet marketing planning.

Google provide a free keyword analysis tool that allows you to plug in search terms and determine the level of search traffic for that term.
