The term content marketing has been around for a long time but in recent months it has come to fore due to the Google push on content. So we all March and start spouting about it not really knowing what it means. Wikipedia (of course has a reasonable definition of and the related article on content marketing is good as a primer.
Content marketing subscribes to the notion that delivering high-quality, relevant and valuable information to prospects and customers drives profitable consumer action.
But if you are scratching your head and reading this and not understanding the concept but have a warm fuzzy feeling that you should be getting on this band wagon then here are some simple content marketing tips. If you read this blog regularly you will know that it is one of my pet topics so rant alert on high.
Write Write Write
If you don’t have any decent content then you don’t even get to the start line. People however are frozen in the headlights when they think of content. I just finished a couple of pulp fiction books and believe me it isn’t hard. You may think you need flowery prose and well thought out points. That helps but your own voice is what people like to hear.
Your own voice is how you would explain topics, products and business to others. Smash out some words, take some photographs and create something, anything. If you use a CMS you can always go back and edit it and improve it later. But get it out. Get a postit and create a content creating plan for the next 5 working days and try and write 100-150 words per day.
Guess what you will then be doing much more than your competition. Much more.
Snap Snap Snap
Stock photos suck eggs. Take some photos with your phone, upload them and add the above content around it. People will get a lot more out of the personal photo than the stock one that you may have paid for.
Share Share Share
Yes this is the blog post with the three word headlines. Share what you write. Ask for comments. Tell people it isn’t perfect and ask for their feedback. People like giving feedback. Ask them to use the comments section. They might also share and then you get more coverage.
Brand Brand Brand
Put your own brand around what you write, snap and share. Let it be so that when people read your writing they know it is about your products and services. Be distinctive.
If you share this I will give you a lollipop(s). Promise!
