Do You Have to Have a Website if You Are a Website Designer?
In typical Seth Godin style today’s post is short and sweet. I of course have a website for my web design business but funnily enough most of my business does not come through the site at all. In fact about 10% comes through the site. The rest comes from some but not all of the following areas.
- Referrals: Customers refer me to other people, they call me, we talk, we work together. Biggest area really.
- Networking: I am involved in social networks, people networks through phone and meetings, and real life networks.
- Accident: Well not by accident, People know I can create a website for them and if they don’t they find out when I meet them (no hard sell just a “what do you do” type of thing.
So I could delete the website and do just fine but for the moment I will leave it as is. Like all business it is important even vital to use all mediums to try and grow your business in today’s competitive climate more and more are looking to use websites to showcase what they do and promote it.
I am now seeing customers calling me who would not have had the need in the past like builders and solicitors who would have been busy during the Celtic tiger and now need to work more creatively. This is great and I enjoy working with these customers as they are focused and know what they are looking for.
