People always want their websites to get more traffic have great on page SEO and to have tons of solid authoritative backlinks but they tend not to look at the basics. All too often they ignore what their customers want from a website. So look at the points below they may resonate with your site.
Contact details: If your contact details cannot be found in 3-4 seconds on your site then you are in trouble. Big trouble, We are living in a high speed culture. People want it to be like the hammer in the cartoons from when we (I at least) were little. Here I am CALL ME/ E-MAIL ME
No Weasel Words: this is the sort of useless language like “Welcome to our website blah blah blah”. Or “Here at ACME foundation we strive to be the best in XYZ”. People are fed up of this type of empty verbiage and WILL hit the back button. Look at your bounce rate and it will tell you a lot.
Easy Navigation: If your Google Analytics stats are telling you that your portfolio is getting the most traffic from the menu bar then move it closer into peoples vision and replace the weasel words above with something like…
“Hi – Some great examples of our work can be found here. Contact us if you like it and maybe we can do business”
People are now scanners so make your navigation subtle, available and prominent.
Above The Fold: Above the fold is a newspaper term and means just that – many people just read the top fold of a paper and may never even unfold and read lower down. Your website landing page may have lots of fascinating facts but people are lazy and don’t even scroll down anymore. In fact if you have read this far in this article well done (this is testing the below the fold theory)
What do you think a good website should bring to the party. Hello hello have your read this far?
