The School of Website Design

There are a lot of night classes out there teaching HTML, how to create your first website and the basics of the Internet.  I think this is a great idea as it demystifies  the whole area.  I applaud all those teachers and what they teach.

However with it comes the danger that a lot of people think that they can create a website.  Well of course they can create HTML pages and make them look to their eyes but there are a lot of other steps to making the site effective.  This is often where the course I mention leave people short. There are not too many schools of website design out there.  Practice and knowledge gained over time  is what makes a good designer.

The best way to learn more is to have a goal for your website.  Sit down and write down the 5 main things you want to get out of the site.  If you can’t write 5 then you amy not need one right away.  Here are 5 that I can think of right away.

  1. Communicating status updates
  2. Making school, business, product information available quickly
  3. Promoting your school,business, club
  4. Directions or map to where your business is
  5. Your phone number – yes quicker to say Google “My Business” and all our contact details will be there.

If you want a on-to-one conversation on how to actually design a website I can e-mail you as much information as you want.  If you like I can even do the job for you but that is another conversation.
