Tracking Calls

forblogTracking your traffic is Website 101 for most people who have any level of ownership of their sites these days.

With the newer release of Google Analytics there is increased power in setting goals and funnels and investigating what keywords, content and calls to action work for you on your site. Google Analytics allows tracking of up to 20 goals in the latest release for your site which is great
You can track everything  from comments on your blog to an order path for a catalog of product.

Look at the interesting webinar below which gives an excellent overview of the latest features for Google Analytics.

However one area that is impossible to track at the moment is when someone lands on your page or contact form and chooses to call you on the phone.  I get a lot of calls from leads from Grange Web Design from people who
merely searched website design and found my site and just picked up the phone.  There is a huge customer base
out here who do not like using e-mail and are most comfortable with a voice.

I get 3-4 calls per day through this method but when I look at my Analytics I have no way of determining how this was achieved.  This is a hugely unexplored area.  Yes you may have a customer relationship spiel where you ask how did you hear of me/us but 9 times out of 10 it will be difficult to ask a non technical contact how they found your phone number.  They will not know what a contact page is or even know where they saw the number on  their site in the first place.

How would you track this sort of contact conversion?
