Two Great Goals – Burp!

Social Media Training Now first and foremost the compulsory disclaimer.  I am not a social media expert. Just because I love Twitter, and I think Facebook is very powerful if used well,  and the other tools like Linkedin, SocialToo and the host of others are excellent if used effectively for your brand ,does not in any way allow me to put a big fat social media expert badge on my chest.  It doesn’t stop others who charge people to show them how to RT and use hashtags (end of rant!).

I also think no self respecting brand from small to large can ignore its benefits.  I tell all my web design clients to get involved and use it to the max.  Most ignore me – I do try.

However tomorrow evening 3 of my wife’s friends are calling to my house, not to meet her but to meet me.  They want me to show them  Twitter and how it works.  Now I have never met them.  I never pressed my business card into their hands.  My wife just mentioned in passing that that I like Twitter, use it a lot and have made some good business connections on it.  They picked up on this and said they would love to learn from me.

The cost?  A bottle of wine per customer. Not bad at all.  I think they are my new tribe!  I plan to help them understand the social media experience and leave the house thinking there is more to social media than then they had thought. I will have more wine and the beginnings of a new tribe!  Most of all I wan them to appreciate the fun side of it.  I will sip the wine in weeks ahead and keep an open phone line to them (I might get some more wine!!) and who knows my tribe might grow from this experience!

My small hope is that they leave my house tomorrow night thinking social media is a serious business with a fun slant that can be used well to build a great network.  My hope is that the wine is half decent.  Two great goals!

  1. If the wine’s not all you’d hoped, you could always point hintingly to at least three friendly local merchants as examples of social media for business in practice. Or let us know, if it’s one of ours and not hitting the spot!

  2. Great reply Julian!! I will tell them that you are the person to check out for great wine. With that sign on the Marina and the great shop in English market hey can’t go wrong!

thanks for the comment I appreciate it!
