How to Create Anchor Links in WordPress with Elementor

Stuck Finishing Your Website? I’ll Get It Live for You

I’m Kieran, and I’ve been building websites for businesses for over 20 years. If you’d rather someone just handle this for you, let’s have a quick chat.

Table of Contents

An anchor link sends someone straight to a section further down the page instead of making them scroll. In Elementor it is a two part job: give the section an ID, then point a link at that ID. The awkward part is the sticky header, which will cover your heading unless you tell Elementor about it. All three steps are below. If you would rather have this handled for you, we offer WordPress website design.

Table of Contents

The three steps

Step 1. Click the section you want to jump to, open the Advanced tab, and put a short name with no spaces into the CSS ID field, for example pricing.
Step 2. Highlight the text you want to turn into the link, click the link button, and type a hash followed by that same ID, for example #pricing. To link from the main menu instead, add a Custom Link menu item with the full address and the hash on the end.
Step 3. If your header is sticky, the section will land underneath it. Fix that in Elementor under Site Settings, Layout, Scroll Offset, and set it to the height of your header in pixels.
If nothing happens when you click, the usual cause is a space or a capital letter in the CSS ID. IDs are case sensitive and cannot contain spaces.

Add the Anchor Widget

1. Open your page in Elementor.2. Search for the Menu Anchor widget.

3. Drag and drop it to the section you want to link to.

Set the Anchor ID

1. Click on the Menu Anchor widget.
2. In the left panel, find the ID field.
3. Enter a unique ID (e.g., about-section).

1. Select the text, button, or menu item that should link to the anchor.
2. In the link field, type #your-anchor-id (e.g., #about-section).

1. Save and preview your page.
2. Click the anchor link to check if it scrolls to the correct section.

That’s it! You’ve successfully created an anchor link in Elementor.
