Shopify Delivery

If you’re running an online Shopify store in Ireland, offering An Post as a shipping option is a smart move.  Especially if you are doing Shopify B2B now available on all Shopiufy plans since Apr 2026.

As Ireland’s national postal service, An Post is trusted by consumers across the country and provides reliable delivery options for both domestic and international shipments. Setting it up on Shopify, however, isn’t always straightforward, so here’s a clear guide to help you get shipping with An Post quickly. Like our recent post about setting up Stripe, it isn’t that difficult to do. Lets look at the details.

Why Use An Post for Your Shopify Store?

Before diving into the setup, it’s worth understanding why An Post is a strong choice for Irish eCommerce merchants:

  • Local trust: Irish shoppers recognise and trust An Post, which can help reduce cart abandonment at checkout.
  • Nationwide coverage: An Post delivers to every address in Ireland, including rural areas that some couriers may not serve as efficiently.
  • Competitive rates: For smaller parcels and letters, An Post is often more cost-effective than private couriers.
  • International reach: Through global partnerships, An Post connects Irish merchants with customers worldwide.

Step 1: Set Up Your An Post Business Account

Before connecting anything to Shopify, you’ll need a business account with An Post:

  1. Visit anpost.com and navigate to the Business section.
  2. Register for a business account or log in if you already have one.
  3. Take note of your account number and API credentials, as you’ll need these later.

If you expect high shipping volumes, consider contacting An Post directly to discuss contract rates, which can significantly reduce your per-parcel costs.

Step 2: Choose Your Integration Method

There are several ways to connect An Post to Shopify. The right option depends on your order volume and technical requirements.

Option A: Use a Third-Party Shipping App

The most common approach is to use a shipping platform that integrates with An Post. Popular options include Shipstation, Sendcloud, and Packlink PRO, all available in the Shopify App Store.

  • Print shipping labels directly from your dashboard
  • Automatically update tracking information in Shopify
  • Display real-time An Post rates at checkout (on eligible Shopify plans)

How to set it up:

  1. Install your chosen app from the Shopify App Store.
  2. Connect it to your An Post business account using your credentials.
  3. Configure your shipping rules, including weight limits, zones, and services.
  4. Enable carrier-calculated shipping if you want live rates at checkout.

Option B: Manual Shipping Rates

If you’re just starting out or have low order volumes, you can manually set up shipping rates in Shopify based on An Post pricing:

  1. In your Shopify Admin, go to Settings → Shipping and Delivery.
  2. Under your shipping profile, click Add rate.
  3. Create rates based on weight or order value, aligned with An Post pricing.
  4. Label them clearly, for example, “Standard Post — 3–5 working days”.

This approach is simple and cost-effective but requires manual fulfilment and label purchasing.

Step 3: Configure Shipping Zones

  • Domestic (Ireland): Create a zone for Ireland and apply your shipping rates.
  • Northern Ireland: Decide whether to treat this as domestic or international.
  • International: Add zones and apply relevant An Post international services.

Step 4: Set Up Tracking

Providing tracking improves the customer experience and builds trust.

  1. After purchasing a shipping label, you will receive a tracking number.
  2. In Shopify, mark the order as fulfilled and enter the tracking number.
  3. Select An Post as the shipping carrier.

Step 5: Test Before You Go Live

  • Place a test order and confirm shipping rates display correctly.
  • Fulfil the order and ensure tracking works as expected.
  • Check that confirmation emails include accurate tracking information.

Pro Tips

  • Use appropriate packaging to optimise shipping costs.
  • Offer free shipping thresholds to increase conversions.
  • Clearly communicate delivery times to customers.
  • Review your shipping rates regularly to ensure accuracy.

Setting up An Post shipping on Shopify doesn’t have to be complicated. With the right approach, it can become a strong competitive advantage for your store.
