Alt text is important for SEO and accessibility. It helps search engines understand images and makes your site easier to use for visually impaired visitors. Here’s how to add alt text to images in WordPress.

Step 1: Open the WordPress Dashboard
Log in to your WordPress site. Once inside, you’ll see the main dashboard, where you can manage your content and media files.
Step 2: Go to the Media Library
In the left-hand menu, click Media and then select Library. This will show all the images uploaded to your site. You can add alt text to any of them.
Step 3: Select an Image
Click on the image you want to edit. A panel will open on the right side with image details such as file name, size, and upload date.
Step 4: Find the Alt Text Field
Look for the Alt Text box in the panel. This is where you’ll enter a description of the image.
Step 5: Enter a Clear Description
Type a short but meaningful description of the image. Keep it relevant to the content. For example, instead of writing “dog”, write “Golden Retriever playing in the park.”
Step 6: Save Your Changes
Once you’ve entered the alt text, WordPress saves it automatically. You can now close the panel.
Step 7: Add Alt Text While Uploading a New Image
If you’re uploading a new image, go to your post or page editor, click Add Media, and select an image. Before inserting it into the post, enter alt text in the Alt Text field in the right panel. Then click Insert into Post.
Final Step: Check Your Alt Text
To make sure your alt text is in place, click on the image inside a post or page. Click the Edit (pencil icon) button, and you’ll see the alt text field. If needed, update the description and save your changes.
Now your images are optimized for both users and search engines!
