Shopify charges a transaction fee of 2.9% plus 30¢ per sale on the Basic plan. As you move up to higher plans the rates reduce, with the Shopify plan charged at 2.6% plus 30¢ and the Advanced plan at 2.4% plus 30¢ per transaction. These fees apply when using Shopify Payments as your payment gateway.
What if You Use a Third-Party Payment Gateway?
If you choose to use a third-party payment provider such as PayPal or Stripe instead of Shopify Payments, Shopify will charge an additional transaction fee on top of whatever your payment provider charges. This is 2% on the Basic plan, 1% on the Shopify plan, and 0.5% on the Advanced plan. For most businesses, using Shopify Payments where it is available is the most cost-effective option.
